NOTES
Commentaires de l'auteur : Prévoteau (2012) signale un probable hybride naturel entre Heliconia densiflora B.Verl. 1869 subsp. densiflora et H. psittacorum L.f. 1782.
Date de publication : Suppl. Pl. 158. 1781 [04/1782, fide TL-2, 4854].
Type : "Heliconia psittacorum [...] Papegoyen-Beck. Surinam. Habitat in Surinamo. C. G. Dalberg. ♄." [protologue].
D'après P.L.R. de Moraes (Phytotaxa, 41(1): 23. 2012): "‘Heliconia 13. nova’, Pl. Surin.: 6. 1775; Amoen. Acad. 8: 254. 1785.
= Heliconia psittacorum Linnaeus filius (1782: 158). Lectotype (designated by Andersson 1985: 50):— SURINAME. Loco haud indicato, Anonymous [C.G. Dahlberg] 13 (LINN 286.4). Isolectotypes: LINN 286.5, UPS-THUNB 5891. Specimens: SURINAME. Loco haud indicato, D. Rolander s.n. (C ex Hb. Schum., SBT 1.3.11.71).
There are two sheets at LINN that were collected by Dahlberg. LINN 286.4 comprises three mounted inflorescences, and a leaf. This sheet is in accord with the protologue of Heliconia psittacorum and is original material. It was annotated by Linnaeus with ‘Surin 13’, ‘Heliconia pumila’, and by Sir James E. Smith with ‘psittacorum’, being quoted by Savage (1945: 42) as ‘[Pl. Surin. 1775. p.6.]’. The second sheet (LINN 286.5) bears a leaf and an inflorescence, and was annotated by Linnaeus filius with ‘Heliconia nova 13’, and by Smith with ‘psittacorum vide Pl. Surinam. Am. Ac. Vol. 8’, who also noted on the reverse of the sheet ‘Germen clavato-oblongum subpubescens. In the Suppl. the what is described as the upper part of the flower is the under. Anthera sessilis’. The sheet at UPS-THUNB was annotated by Thunberg as ‘Heliconia psittacorum’, ‘e Surinamo. Dahlberg’, and comprises only an inflorescence. The vernacular name in Dahlberg’s Catalogus is ‘Papegay bekken’, transcribed by Alm as ‘Papegojen Beck’, and by Linnaeus filius as ‘Papegoyen - Beck’."
