Etymologie : "Named after the ascocarp aggregates which seem to destroy the thallus gradually"

Holotype : "FRENCH GUIANA. Regina: S-shore of creek Arataye near confluence with river Approuague, surroundings of Camp Aratai; 3°59’N, 52°35’W, 50–150 m; epiphyte in undergrowth of humid, primary lowland forest on low hills; 23 Feb 2003, H. Sipman 50920 (holotype B!)."
