Date de publication : Brittonia, 71(2): 207–210, f. 1, 4. 2019 [20/02/2019].
Etymologie : We take great pleasure in naming this species in honor of Ricardo de Lemos Fróes (1891–1960), of the Instituto Agronômico do Norte (IAN, now EMBRAPA) in Belém, who made a number of pioneering expeditions and collections in the Amazon region.
Taxonomie : Dacryodes froesiana is similar to D. caparuensis, D. negrensis, and D. oblongifolia in having branchlets with yellowish pubescence; the petiole semiterete; a similar number of juga, pulvinuli not apparent (except basally on lateral leaflets of D. negrensis), similar leaflet size and shape, the acumen short and broad, the leaflets drying dark brown or sometimes gray adaxially (except D. negrensis); the secondary veins arcuate; the midvein and secondaries prominent and the rest of veins prominulous abaxially; and the inflorescences usually long and lax, highly branched. Three of them have large fruits, but D. froesiana has not yet been collected in fruit. The four species can be distinguished by the characters in Table I.
