D'après P.L.R.Moraes (Phytotaxa, 41(1):
19-20. 16/01/2012): "Andersson (1992: 93), followed by Govaerts et al. (2010), treated
Chiococca paniculata L.f. as a synonym of
Psychotria paniculata (Aubl.) Raeusch., however, neither of the syntypes of the former name is identifiable as the latter species. According to Charlotte Taylor (pers. comm.), those syntypes represent at least three different species. Specimens LINN 233.3, LINN 233.4, and LINN 233.5 belong to the species that is currently called
Palicourea lineariflora Wernham, from the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes in Colombia (although specimen LINN 233.5 had been annotated by Linnaeus as from Suriname). Specimens LINN 233.6, LINN-SM 339.4, S-LINN 09-35708 [IDC 84.14], and UPS-THUNB 4923 belong to
Psychotria cornigera Bentham (1841: 227), whereas the specimen LINN 233.2 must belong to either
Palicourea crocea (Swartz 1788: 44) Roemer & Schultes (1819: 193), or
Palicourea croceoides Hamilton (1825: 29). The selection of Mutis’s collection as the lectotype is justified for being the only specimen annotated by Linnaeus filius as belonging to
Chiococca paniculata. For a list of specimens by Mutis at MA determined as
Palicourea lineariflora, see Caleya & Stervinou (2009: 257)."
