E. debilis at Berlin (Rio de Janeiro, 1814-15, ex reliquiis Sellowiani. Humboldt ded. 1836. hb. Kunth no. 3202) is an annual, much like
E. caribaea, but having whitened, acute spikelets with thin, loose scales, the achenes becoming purplish-brown to black only when mature.
E. macra, also from Humboldt, with perhaps a perennial rootstock, is apparently the same, except that it is slenderer and few-flowered. Perhaps the West Indian plants listed under
E. Sintenisii belong here." Le spécimen désigné comme néotype par Menapace (ined.?) se distingue nettement de la description du type original donnée par Svenson par ses épillets brun-pourpre!...
