Type : "British Guiana. Described from a living plant sent from British Guiana in 1898 to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, where it flowered in July of 1900 and 1901." [protologue].
Guyana, plante reçue en 1898, cultivée à Kew Gardens, 20/07/1900, fleurs, N.E. Brown s.n. (HT: K [photo: fig. 15 in Croat & Delannay, Aroideana, 40(2): 601. 2017]).
D'après Croat & Delannay (2017): "As indicated by N.E. Brown in a note written on the type specimens for both species, Xanthosoma cordifolium was published by mistake as he had overlooked his earlier publication for X. cordatum for the same plant. X. cordifolium is therefore designated here as a synonym of X. cordatum."
