NOTES
Distribution : "Endemic to the Marquesas Archipelago, Pritchardia tahuatana is known only from eight cultivated plants, always at ancient house sites (sometimes currently occupied) or religious sites, on Tahuata Island at Hapatoni (at currently occupied houses), at Haaoipu near Hanatetena [in coconut (Cocos nucifera) plantation] (Fig. 10), and at Motopu (in secondary forest with Hibiscus tiliaceus and Pandanus tectorius on an old trail linking ancient stone platforms). It was also formerly present on Fatuiva Island at Hanavave village (on a small trail leading to coconut plantations) where the last tree died in 2009 (pers. obs., October 2009). Pritchardia tahuatana was once likely much more common and widespread in the Marquesas Archipelago, even up to relatively recent times."
