here, but these are attributed in the Genera Plantarum Rubiaceae (2:
124) to Bentham as author, and the introductory part of Oersted's
article attributes the taxonomy "mostly" [mestendeels] to Bentham."

type was clearly designated in the protologue, where Bentham included
two species:
Psychotria hartwegii Benth. and
Psychotria laevis DC. Later
Bremekamp raised this section to genus rank and desginated
Notopleura
uliginosa as the type of the genus, but Bentham did not list that
species by that name and Bremekamp did not indicate that Bentham's
Psychotria laevis was later considered a synonym of
Psychotria
uliginosa, so his typification is not clearly related to Bentham's
species. Bullock intended to clarify the situation, that
Psychotria
hartwegii was the type of the genus, but because this was not clearly
indicated by Bentham in either the protologue or the Genera Plantarum
(2: 124), Bullock's designation is better considered a lectotypification
under our current nomenclatural rules."
