NOTES
Date de publication : Fl. Bras. 6(5): 87 [en note!]. 1881 [01/07/1881, fide TL-2, 5538, cf. p. 336].
Nomenclature : D'après C.M. Taylor (2016, Studies in American Rubiaceae): "The name Coussarea racemosa has long been used for this species in the Andean countries and the Guianas. The name Faramea albescens was published simultaneously and applies to the same species, and has been treated as a synonym of Coussarea racemosa by several authors. However these names were first noted to apply to the ame species and synonymized by Mueller (1881: 87) who explictly chose the name "albescens" for this species, as noted by Brazilian taxonomists. Mueller's work appears to be the first synonymization of these two names, and thus has priority. Mueller said (translated from the Latin):
"Obs. Faramea albescens DC., growing in French Guiana, differs [from Coussarea ilheotica Muell. Arg.] by its much smaller leaves that are not glandular-foveate, the corolla lobes 4-winged in bud and the lobes equalling the corolla tube. The latter [species, i.e. Faramea albescens], which is Coussarea albescens Mull. Arg. [i.e., Coussarea albescens (DC.) Muell. Arg.], is otherwise the same as Coussarea racemosa A. Rich., but the inflorescence in the original specimen is on both sides broadly paniculate (according to A. Rich. "a compound raceme"), not racemiform and the term "racemosa" is for this reason by no means to be retained.""
