Nom de remplacement illégitime et superflu pour
Coffea occidentalis (L.) Jacq. 1760 [≡
Ixora occidentalis L. 1759], dans le genre
Tetramerium Gaertn. 1806, nom. rej.! "
Ixora americana" est également cité comme synonyme, mais l'analyse détaillée de la bibliographie associée montre qu'il s'agit en réalité de
I. americana sensu L. 1763, un nom invalide basé sur le lectotype de
Faramea occidentalis (L.) A.Rich. 1830 (et non de
Ixora americana L. 1759 ≡
Rondeletia racemosa Sw. 1797, Jamaïque!).
D'après
Tropicos: "This name was based on several previously published plates and cited in synonymy several previously published names. Thus it is a nom. illeg. superfl. The identity of the plant that Gaertner illustrated and most of the plates he cited is
Faramea occidentalis L., and this name has been regarded as a synonym of that. However one of the names he cited,
Ixora americana L., has a different identity, and is today a synonym of
Rondeletia racemosa Sw. The second element cited by Gaertner is now the lectotype of
Faramea occidentalis, and this name is here considered therefore a nom. superfl. for
Faramea occidentalis L. The citation of
Ixora americana L. apparently was based at least in part on misidentifications of that species by Sw. (cf. DC., 4: 496)."
