Taxonomie : Auparavant traité comme un synonyme de
Faramea torquata Müll.Arg. 1875 (Steyermark, Mem. New York Bot. Gard., 17(1): 387-388. 22/12/1967), mais maintenant considéré comme une bonne espèce (C.M. Taylor, 2010-2020,
Studies in American Rubiaceae). Daprès Taylor (l.c.): "This species is characterized by its generally medium-sized elliptic leves with the venation mostly well developed abaxially, ca. 9-14 pairs of secondary veins that are united in a well developed submarginal vein, terminal inflorescences with a single peduncle and the secondary axes 3--4-verticillate, cymose pedicellate flowers, well developed truncate calyx limbs, well developed white corollas with the lobes acuminate, and medium-sized oblate fruits. Some plants from western Colombia have relatively large leaves and long peduncles, and range down to near sea level while most of the collections of this species are found at 1100-1500 m; this is a common morphological and elevational pattern in the Chocó biogeographic region.
Faramea lehmannii is similar to
Faramea belizensis of northern Central America and
Faramea papillata of central Panama."
