Voir Oort (in Rec. Trav. Bot. Néerl. 36: 678-680. 1939) pour un résumé de la confusion générée par le changement de concept générique par Linné. Si le genre Securidaca L. 1759 a été conservé, en revanche Securidaca volubilis L. 1759 reste un homonyme postérieur de S. volubilis L. 1753 et est donc illégitime (voir The Linnean plant name typification project).

Synonymie : Adams (in Jarvis et al., Regnum Veg. 127 : 87. 1993) considère Securidaca brownei Griseb. 1859 comme le nom accepté de S. volubilis L. 1759.

Type : Jamaïque, Red Hill, St. Andrew, 1000 ft., 26/12/1914, W. Harris 11838 (NT: BM000566451 [désigné par Adams in Jarvis et al., Regnum Veg. 127 : 87. 1993]; INT: K000012851, K000012852).
Dans son protologue Linné cite comme unique matériel "Securidaca Brown. Jam. 287". P. Browne (Civ. Nat. Hist. Jamaica 287-288. 1756) décrit deux espèces de Securidaca en Jamaïque, l'épithète linnéenne "volubilis" faisant évidemment référence à la seconde ["Securidaca 2 scandens..." de Red Hills].
D'après "The Linnean plant name typification project": "Oort regarded three sheets of material at LINN (883.1-883.3) as comprising the type material and, though apparently restricting this to the two sheets (883.1, 883.2) representing a member of the Polygalaceae, rather than the one (883.3) of the Leguminosae, this is not an effective typification. Neither 883.1 nor 883.2 [du Suriname!] is original material for the name. In the absence of any original material, Adams designated a more recent neotype."
