Distribution : Guyane française, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela (Delta Amacuro, Bolívar), Brésil [Amazonas, Roraima, Amapá, Mato Grosso fide Flora do Brasil 2020] (C.M. Taylor 2004).

Taxonomie : Psychotria s.str.! D'après C.M. Taylor (2004): "Psychotria irwinii is generally recognizable as similar to P. mapourioides [= P. pedunculosa Rich. 1792!] but with larger flowers. Psychotria irwinii may eventually be shown to represent only a vigorous form of that variable species."

Type : Suriname, Wilhelmina Gebergte, 5 km east of the confluence of Lucie and Oost Riviers, 03°36-41'N, 56°30-34'W, 350 m, on forested lower slopes of mountain, 13/09/1963, fleurs et fruits. Tree to 3 m high, 8cm diam, flowers white, fruit orange. H.S. Irwin, T.R. Soderstrom & N.H. Leaves subcoriaceous, deep green above, paler below. Peduncle branches, calyx, and corolla white. Main peduncle greenish. J.A. Steyermark 86980 (PT: VEN79024).
