Type : "E Brasilia aequinoctionali misit Sellow, in vicinia urbis Rio Janeiro lectam." [protologue].
Brésil, origine exacte inconnue [probablement Bahia, 1815-1818], F. Sellow (ST: K000424262 [ex hb. Hook.], HAL0114210).
D'après C.M. Taylor (2016,
Studies in Tropical Rubiaceae): "
Gonzalagunia dicocca was described based
on a Sello collection from Brazil that did not have exact locality data.
The type locality was cited in the protologue as as reportedly near Rio
de Janeiro. However this species has not been documented in Brazil
south of the area "between Bahia and Vitoria", i.e., southern Bahia
through central Espírito Santo. Only one Sello collection was cited by
Schumann (1891" 292), who reported it from this area."
Sellow).
