Taxonomie : Espèce très distincte, proche de Faramea axillaris Standl. 1930 (W Amazonie), F. axilliflora DC. 1830 (forêts atlantiques) et F. aristata Müll.Arg. 1881 (sud forêts atlantiques) (Steyermark 1967).

Type : Guyana, monts Acarai (frontière brésilienne), Sierra Irikoume, Shuurutirir Camp, forest, c. 300 m, 09/11/1952, fleurs. Arbuste du sous-bois de 1,3 m, à fleurs solitaires sessiles munies de grandes bractées. F.D. 7584 [Gonggrijp 569] (HT: NY00131350; IT: NY00131348, NY00131349).
