Type : "Habitat in America meridionali." [Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 1:
130. 1762].
Venezuela, 1754-56, P. Loefling s.n. (HT: disparu?). [Loefling a voyagé au Venezuela (essentiellement région de Cumana?) du
11/04/1754 jusqu'à sa mort sur le río Caroní (Bolívar) le 22/02/1756].
Origine inconnue, s. coll. (NT:
LINN 108.1 [désigné comme "type" par Dugand, Caldasia 8: 388. 1960. Voir aussi: Brandbyge, Nordic J. Bot. 6: 550. 1986]).
D'après The Linnean Plant Name Typification Project: "Dorr & Wiersema (in Taxon 59: 1255-1256. 2010) argue that
Triplaris was validly published by Loefling and that his description was "the sole basis for
T. americana
L.". They suggest that, if the origin of the type (Herb. Linn. No.
108.1. LINN) designated by Dugand "does not trace back to Loefling, then
the Linnaean specimen must be considered a neotype". The same authors
subsequently (in
Taxon 59: 1571. 2010) subsequently refer to the material in question as a neotype."
