S. grandiflora. Large-flowered Sloanea. (S. dentata; Swartz Obs.
213. Willd. n. I, excluding the synonyms, except the following. S. Plumierii; Aubl. Guian. v. I.
536.)- [...] Gathered in the forests of Guiana by Aublet, whose specimen is before us. He found it bearing flowers and fruit in November. [...] The specific character and description given by professor Swartz, cannot be mistaken; but it is remarkable that he should not have detected Aublet's misapplication of Plumier's synonym. This error is indeed the more pardonable in Aublet, as he was acquainted with but one of these two species, and took it, of course, for what Plumier had figured." [protologue].
"Le tronc de l'arbre s'élève à quarante ou cinquante pieds, sur deux
pieds de diametre. J'en ai vu plusieurs dans des forêts qui sont sur
l'habitation de M. de Monti à Aroura. Il étoit en fleur & en fruit
dans le mois de Novembre." [Aublet, Hist. Pl. Guiane 1:

Sloanea Plumierii].
