D'après Judziewicz (1990): "Venezuela and the Guianas (rare). Surinam: E Sipaliwini savanna, first hill N of 4-Gebroeders Mt., 315 m, 12 Sep 1968, Oldenburger et al. 80 (U). French Guiana: Savane Marosi, Rt. Sinnamary, Hoock 226, 15 Nov 1955 (P).
Savannas at elevations of 0-1000 m; flowering from September through November.
Note: Compared to Guianan material, the type of
D. venezuelae is a smaller plant with slightly smaller (1.7-1.8 mm long) spikelets; otherwise, the morphology and indument of the spikelets is similar. Besides the type of
D. glabriculmis, here placed in synonymy, another specimen of
D. venezuelae was examined from the Gran Sabana of E Venezuela: Tamayo 2844 (US), with spikelets 1.9-2 mm long. It is intermediate between the type specimen and Hoock 226.
D. venezuelae is a member of the difficult sect.
Corynotriche Henr., about 10 tropical American species with conspicuously clavate spikelet hairs; some authors (e.g. Renvoize, 1984) would sink many taxa under the oldest name,
D. corynotricha (Hack.) Henr."
