(Taxon, 62(6): 1304. 12/2013): "Formerly, Himatanthus was treated as feminine (Willdenow in Roemer & Schultes 1819; Woodson 1938) possibly due to the tendency to treat classical tree names as feminine (Art. 62.1, McNeill & al., 2012). Technically, Himatanthus ought to be neuter as it is based on the Greek word anthos, but it is treated as masculine in accordance with tradition, under the current Code (Art, 62.2(c), McNeill & al., 2012)."

Taxonomie : La systématique du genre Himatanthus Willd. ex Schult. 1819 est profondémment controversée avec deux révisions relativement récentes (d'une part Plumel 1990, repris par Allorge 2015; d'autre part Spina 2004) proposant des conclusions radicalement distinctes, en particulier pour la Guyane française.
