D'après Moraes (Phytotaxa 41: 52. 2012): "The specimen at LINN was annotated by Linnaeus as ‘
Lobelia laevigata 12’. The specimen S-LINN 05-1889, ex Herb. Alstroemerii, was annotated by A. Dahl with ‘
surinamensis’ and ‘
laevigata’, on the front of the sheet, and with ‘Dahl a Linne P.’, ‘Surinam Dahlberg’, on the reverse of the sheet. Once admitted the correctness of Dahl’s annotations, this specimen could not be assumed as type of
Lobelia surinamensis L. (1763a: 1320), as indicated in the websites of the Swedish Museum of Natural History (S) and consequently in “JSTOR Plant Science” (
http://plants.jstor.org/specimen/s05-1889; accessed in January 2011). Like the other Surinamese specimens attributed to Dahlberg that Linnaeus had sent to Alstroemer, Dahlberg’s specimen of
Lobelia was received by Linnaeus just in 1774, thus later than the description of
L. surinamensis in 1763, which has no indication of collector given by Linnaeus."
