N.U.S. ed. 2. 1: 584 (7 Jun. 1913); Verdcourt & Pohlhill, Taxon 46: 347-348 (1997) proposed ~Myrica cerifera~ L. as the conserved type of the genus, but this proposal was not recommended by the Spermatophyta Committee (Taxon 48: 367 (1999)
