Etymologie : "meridionale (Lat. Southern); based on the current distribution of the species around the southern hemisphere."

Holotype : "BPI 843474, a dried culture, from an orange twig, collected in New Caledonia, date unknown, deposited in the herbarium of BPI, USA."
