dct:abstract
| - P. ocellatum (Rudolphi, 1819), a monogenean parasite of the oral cavity of the freshwater tortoise E. orbicularis, is redescribed from specimens collected in Corsica (France). The genus Polystomoides includes species parasitizing the oral cavity of tortoises and other species parasitizing the urinary bladder. The difference in site of parasitism can be correlated with the respective size of the haptor suckers and hooks and with the distribution area. Two distinct groups may have existed in the evolution of the genus Polystomoides.
